« A love of civil law in all its logic and complexity; a love of words, be it for writing or public speaking, with a single goal, that of convincing; and a will to defend those whose interests are hardly taken into account in our modern society, that is to say creditors: these are the ingredients that fuel my passion for this profession ».

Valérie Mayer co-leads our Banking & Insurance team with Ludovic Gayral and Dominique Doise.

For the past twenty years, Valérie has devoted her activity to serving banks and covers both advisory and litigation work, whether it be in “classic” banking law (financing, drafting of contractual documentation, liability litigation including as regards payment orders, collective proceedings, implementation of security interests) or in the more specific field of international banking law and “Trade Finance”.

Valérie is very involved in the latter field: she is a member of Crédimpex (association of Trade Finance professionals), sits on the banking commission of the International Chamber of Commerce and is also a member of the AEDBF (European Society for Banking and Financial Law). Valérie also co-writes with Dominique Doise the chapter devoted to Documentary Credit in the Lamy Contrats Internationaux publication and teaches a course on International Trade Finance for the Master 2 in International Trade Law at the University of Paris Ouest Nanterre. She also provides various training courses in this field for banks’ legal and back office services.

Valérie works for major French banks as well as for French branches of foreign banks and banks with a business or country specialization.

Moreover, Valérie works in international arbitration in addition to her banking activity.

In an economic world dominated by the English language, Valérie pursued her education in a bilingual class, after which she perfected her knowledge of legal English and her understanding of the Anglo-Saxon way of thinking at New York firm Cravath, Swayne & Moore.

Valérie also previously worked in French law firms Bernard-Hertz-Béjot, Bignon & Lebray, Alérion and Adamas.

Alongside her work as a lawyer, Valérie has taught throughout her career at University, in business schools and at the Bar School, covering such subjects as special contracts, litigation and collective proceedings.
